p90x - 11.24.2008, 03:12 PM

hey guys ive been going to a gym for the past couple months and have definetly noticed a difference but when i start school (taking 20 credit hours..) i will be busy likea mofo...

i would like to be able to workout at home and this system seems to be REALLY good. of course i saw it on an infomercial and it grabbed my attention quick.

what do you all think? has anyone tried it?

http://www.extremebodyworkout.com/p9...ducts/p90x.php

it may be a little more expensive than my gym (have to buy dumbells and what not. but i might give it a try for the next 3 months!

edit. just thought that i would add that i have been doing the p90x ab workout and it DEFINETLY has improved my stomach. so i think that if the ab workout is good everything else should be right?

It is a decent workout. It works well because it is 5 hours a week too, not just 20 minutes a day three times a week. The important thing to consider is the intensity, if you follow the routines and keep a good pace you will burn a good bit of calories.

I have been going to a trainer that got the p90x set, and he uses a similar routine. But, it is based on MMA fighting too. Less stretching and shadowboxing, more hitting stuff. I can say that the high intensity training has put me almost back to my physical peak of 8 years ago. I just couldn't get it back by going to the gym and lifting weights, so martial arts seems to be the key for me.

The best way to gain size is compound lifts. P90x is more of a fat loss program. I know a couple different guys who use it and it has really helped them shed unwanted fat.

I've been doing compound lifts for the past 2 months. Gained about 9lbs of muscle, lost a little fat too. Program I was on is called Stronglifts. I started the Stronglifts Advanced but I want to take a break from the hard and heavy routine to keep off the food from the holidays.

Oh, compound lifts = deadlift, bench press, squat, row, pullup, push press, etc. I work out regularly now. Back in 2004, I weighed 225 - all fat. Went down to about 170, now I'm around 194.

Hey! I take offense to that! Just because my one gold tooth can chew more than your mouth full of pearly whites, doesn't mean I'm any less of a sexy man than you. Now honestly... do you think I need to work out to get the ladies...? I just have to walk up to them and say, "hey babe.... how you doin'" .

Starting strength is a very good book. HIGHLY recommended read.

Look up "madcow 5x5" if you want a great basic weight routine to start with. Otherwise the p90X wouldn't be a bad start to get you moving around at least.

Even though I am not on a weight training program right now, I still do squats and lunges.

right now im maybe 510 511? weighing around 160. i think im in pretty good shape.. i can run 3 miles in around 20-25 minutes (depending how i ate prior)

ive never even been drunk before so i dont think this will be a problem for me (drinking in college) some people told me that i will go all crazy since i have not passed that stage yet but ive seen enough through my brother and sistr and im not going that route.

i would not mind staying at my gym but without anyone there telling me what to do i know im not getting the best workout possible. thats where p90x comes...

someone mentioned i need to use freeweights or actual weights.. well i will be getting that cool bowflex dumbell set along with a bench.. so there will be no power bands for me (hopefully i can do this..?)

i know that if i got a personal trainer then i would get way better results since im in a gym and everything but im sure they are way over my budget.
with having p90x along with my bench/dumbells i bet in the next 3 months i will get some sweet results.

i may order it tomorow.

oh and one of you also said something about finding it in torrents.... ya.......... i could and have looked but if i did end up getting the right one it would be over 40 gigs and that would take FOREVER to download. also... if i do buy it i feel that i would feel more obligated to do it if i ever wanted to quit. i did download ab ripper x and it kicks ass.

ill keep you guys updated. thanks for all your comments!

To get bigger you really should work with some weights. I'm not saying that you may not gain some muscle doing the p90 stuff, but if you really want to throw on some muscle weight try working with weights.

I have been able to get stronger working with weights, but not considerably bigger. I have actually seen more size increase by working high rep pushups, pullups, and bag work- heavy weights just never got me big no matter how much I ate.

Two ways to increase size- muscle fiber hypertrophy (strength- low rep high weight) and increased vascularity (blood flow- low weight high rep). I gain faster with vascularity, and increased blood flow can be used to increase strength and hypertrophy gains. It is a two way street, but everybody is different.

What works for me is my own custom MD4x workout series.

I just sit on a chair in my office all day drinking an average of 4 Mountain Dews per day.

I've got the nicest keg, err ... I mean, 6-pack you'd ever hope to see. :-)

(Actually I am down to 1 Mountain Dew per day, but I bet I'd lose 20 lbs if I just cut the stuff out all together. Bleh.)
