endbell covers for hand wound neus -

i'm running an 1/8 onroad conversion and am about to drop a 1515 1Y in it. i've got it geared fairly high, and i usually cover the endbells but for this one, i was thinking maybe i should just leave it open for added cooling.
is this a bad idea? is it ok to run them open? am i posing any risks to the motor?
Well, if a big enough rock gets in there, it could jam the rotor and/or tear the coils apart. That's probably a worst-case scenario, but it's a possibility.

thanks for the help. i think i'm gonna stay on the side of caution and use the cover. much appreciated.
