I guess you could start with the obvious. Plug a servo (steering maybe?) into the throttle channel and see if you get it to turn. If so, then the signal is OK.

I know the transmitter in the picture was part of the package, but do you know if it is Futaba based? Some RTRs can come with the electronics from other manufacturers - they just put their label on it. Either way, you could try reversing the throttle channel and give it a go.

I assume you are trying to calibrate it to the ESC according to the ESC's manual...
