The advantage of y winds is that you can vary the timing for positive results, which you can't do with d winds and wye winds are supposedly slightly more effcient than d winds. For obvious reasons, d winds allow for more kv options, but someone please tell me if there really is a powerband difference between y and d? Comparing a y vs. d of similar kv, does one have more bottom end or more midrange power?
If I had to guess I'd say "D" stands for delta and "Y" stands for.. star?

It would be just how the winds are hooked up.
