Medusa Afterburner V2 BL motors

The Onyx 230? It looks like it's more than what I would need. The only down side is only 3s lipo/A123. So if I decide to step up to a Maxx or an 1/8 conversion (more along the lines of "when" actually- just can't afford it right now), then the charger would be obsolete.

Does the MRC 989 do A123s? That's a charger I've always drooled over ever since it came out....

I've seen the "dapter". It's a great idea, but it doesn't charge to 100% (which probably will extend the lifetime of the batteries), so that bugs me a bit. I would personally rather the batteries take in their full rated capacity as opposed to a fraction; especially if it's a larger pack (I mean, I am paying for all the capacity, so I might as well use it....lol).

I use my Astro Flight 109 to charge my 10S A123 which the charger sees as 9S lipos. You can charge 6S A123 (21.6v) as 5S lipos (21v).

Just a quick update. I geared the Rustler 25/87, and man, this thing was a monster! It seems more powerful than before, so I think I'm right around its sweet spot. Still super smooth though.

I forgot to take temperatures unfortunately, and got a little bogged down in some old friends stopping by to visit, so it wasn't a helluva run or anything. I still wheelied the poop out of it though, and that type of driving would easily heat up my 5700, but the medusa was luke warm at worst.

Definitely a keeper.

Anyone else have trouble getting pinions onto the shaft though? I have to almost hammer the suckers on!

That is good news. A little fine sanding on the shaft should help. I had the same issue with one of my other motors.

Anyone found a source for the 36-60-2000kv model? Their site has said none available for a while now, and I can't seem to find em anywhere.

I cant find one:( I hope the price dosen't go up before they come back into stock.

Just ran the Rustler at 25/87 (about a 9.5:1 FDR in a heavy ass Rustler!) for about 10 or so minutes of continuous running (WOT passes, tons of wheelies, etc.) and got the following temperatures:

Motor- 130F
ESC- 115F
Lipo- 110F

It's about 80F out right now with a strong breeze (so I'm sure that helped). The cool part was that it had enough grunt to still wheelie at half throttle!

All of this while staying relatively cool. WOO!

As for where to buy them...I found a few places that carry the medusa V2 line, but none have the 60mm 2000kv version you are looking for sadly...:(

I'll see if I can find this one site that I'm PRETTY sure they had all of the motors in stock (at least a few weeks ago they did).

Found a site with the 36x60mm 2000kv motor! It's the 5mm shaft version though if that matters.

Thanks! I just ordered one to try in my 1/8 buggy. I'll let everyone know how it runs. Hopefully it's close to a Neu 1512/2.5D in power and runtime.

Ok, found an issue with the Medusa motors! The shafts on the 3.17mm motor are a wee bit too big, so when I put this one pinion on, it's a snug fit, all well and good, but when it comes time to take it off...it will NOT come off.

I've tried everything from heating the pinion up, to trying to break it loose by twisting the gear one way and the shaft the other, to simply just grabbing the pinion with a freakin' set of pliers and trying to rip the damn thing off. NOTHING!

I need a pinion puller is what it comes down to. So after this gear comes off (not if, but when), I need to sand the shaft down a tad so it doesn't crap out on me again like this.


Edit: Nevermind, I just dremeled the shit out of the pinion, sanded the shaft down (it looks like hell), and now have to go to the LHS to get another 25 tooth pinion. All of this just so I could remount the damn thing to the FLM tranny case, which was not fun at all...

Take fixing screw out and press trottle holding car, it must come out. It just happend if you put too much threadlock to screw. If you will take of try to clean shaft and pinion with some sandpaper.

I have no clue what you just said. I got it off anyways, and did sand the shaft down. Probably a little too much in fact, but pinions slide on and off easy and with the grub screw tightened down, they sit on the shaft just fine.

I'm running the 36-50-2000kv model in my 8ight right now. I've only had a chance to drive it around the parking lot but so far it's pretty impressive. I'm racing tomorrow at Barona Speedway, I'll keep notes on performance and temps, probably some video and definitely some pics.
