would a 49 spur be a good start with a 20 tooth pinion, im going to be just bashing so less heat and lower top end is perfect for me (also would putting a fan on the motor heatsink help at all?)
just to clarify, a higher tooth pinion is less bottom end, more top end and a higher tooth spur is the opposite?

49T spur & 20T pinion would probably be alright to start out with, just watch your temps frequently when experimenting with new gearing.
Larger pinion means more top end, smaller spur also means more top end / higher gearing. Personally I wounldnt bother putting a fan on a motor.
Hey guys, have you ever tried the K4.6, with good fuel like Byron Gen2 race formula, and a TSAIS T-32 tune pipe?????
I can telll you that's a screemer, and i'am realy impressed of this little engine.
I like brushless, but my Savage with the K4.6 impressed me each time i run it.
And you know what?? I've an RB Concept TM 928 with FLM extend low CG TVP on order, suppose to recieve it next wednesday.

Yeah I have had a K4.6 and axial .32 in my savage with that same pipe. My 7XL on 4s blows it away, as does my kb45 8XL on 4s. The KB45 8XL on 6s is just show off power.
Even these cheap brushless motors have twice the acceleration and can be geared for higher top speeds because of the extreme torque the have. The only thing nitro has over BL in my opinion is smooth power band without having to worry about wheelies.
