Poorly maintained bikes are %#@&ing dangerous. If you are getting on a bike that you do not know check it over first.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me on a mates bike. I jumped on it to ride somewhere and half way there we decide to do a sprint. I started to pull away from him and all of a sudden chain comes off or jammed can't remember which but it caused my foot to come off the pedal and hit the tar. My back wheel then ran over my foot and I still some how managed to stay on the bike.

He then tells me how his cousin had the same thing happen to him in the same place on the same bike but wasn't as lucky and ended up in the prickly bushes on the side of the road.
