I have a feeling this unit will do the same. They are just too close to the heat sink. From what I could make out, they seemed to be touching the heat sink. Maybe that's the problem with the Monsters and probably nobody at Castle saw it.

Thanks linc pimp master. This is my year to shine with some RC goodies man. I just spoke with somebody and I'll soon be making a nice conversion for the great TC3. I also spoke with another person and soon I'll have my own motors too. I'll go slow as I don't want to stop putting money away for my daughter. She needs it the most you know. It should be awesome.

My MMM V2 has a bunch of mods, but I missed this one until a friend of mine pointed it out. It's been running good for a while, but I now see that two of the motor connectors are touching the heatsink. So far:

1. Case bottom mod
2. Case top mod
3. Remove fan
4. Disable BEC
5. Run Rx Lipo w/regulator
6. Change switch to MM switch (so it doesn't turn off mid-race)
7. Rx cable opening made bigger
8. Rx cable shrink wrapped
9. Connector/heatsink contact mod coming

High maintenance little controller!

Let me know how your connector/heat sink contact mod goes. I almost got Dremel happy, but I don't want to mess things up.

So far, no luck. I can't get the connector off the board. The heatsink is in such good contact with the connector that I can't get it hot enough. the heatsink just sucks away the heat. I've about had it with this controller. Who's found a better alternative?

Man, I'm not even going to run mine then until something can be done. I think this is proof right here from our Monsters that one of the problems are caused by the heat touching the motor or power plugs.

Choose a Drill Bit that will fit the diameter of the wire, then drill through the center of the connector. (CAREFULLY)

Then remove what's left of the connector with a Dremel tool.

This is what I've been thinking of doing. I haven't crossed the line and voided the warranty yet though. Hmmmm...........to do or not to do?

If you end up doing it, please post some step by step photos if possible. I tend to get Dremel happy . Addicting little tool I tell you .

If Castle could insulate the outside of the power cups with some sort of shrink, it would help center the heat sink more precisely during the assembly process.

Your heat sink is hugging the cups on the motor side, where mine is hugging them on the power side.

They could 've used some sort of fiberglass insulation.

wow. ok, so your power wires are safe but the motor ones could short? as sike pointed out ours are the other way round. oculd this be the fatal error? would be an easy fix... make the heatsink have smaller cutouts :)

could that cause the instant failure??? short for a brief moment which cooks something and everything seems cool?
