The thing is, it's a WHOLE lot more affordable now than it was a year ago. Back then a top notch setup would cost you close to $1,000 -- and that was just motor, esc and batteries.

Very true. I think I will have spent about £290 when I have got everything, which isn't too bad really, as it should last a long time.
