Battery placement really depends on what you plan to do with the crawler. If you plan to do a good bit of vertical climbs, then the forward position is better than the rear. But putting the battery too far forward will negatively affect how well you can drive down a rock.

I think I'm gonna give the xl-5 a try and if I end up not liking it, Ill just put into my sons ruslter.....if need be...

I would go with the xl-5...there is nothing wrong with the esc IMO

well, I got the xl-5 in the mail today, im still waiting on my order from tower, along with a few other misc. items I have ordered, along with the tlt itself from Cali....so by monday I should be able to start cracking on it.....One question for those of you who have the tlt crawlers, pertaining to battery placement, do I need to place them as far forward as I can get them, cause i was going to try to mount the batts forward, and the rx & esc toward the back. Am I going about it right?

Real smooth. Lots of torque with wheel spin when needed. I am running a 12T pinion that gives me a great balance. I had a GRU on it but it was way to slow. I think it was pulling up the asphalt in my driveway with all the torque.

I plan on running 7-8 cells on the xl-5 since it is rated for up to 8 cells, what if i split the cells ( 4 up front/ 4 in rear) or 4 infront 3 in rear and have the motor facing forward, i plan on doing some vertical climbing as well...I guess I will have to just toy around with it

I would suggest that if you want to split the cells go ahead. You want a little more weight up front. Add some BB's in the tires. They give you the weight at the lowest CG and also do not put strain on your driveline due to them rolling. If you strap weight on the rims that effects the drivetrain.

I would start with about 2 oz of BB's and then adjust. that is one of the nice things about using them. It is easy to fine tune.

how do these motors compare to other brushless motors like the neus and lehners and will they work with other applicartions like an emaxx and why do not many people have them sorry for the many questions.

Outrunners are more torque than RPM's. They have smooth acceleration and are brushless.

I run a Lathe in my super...may be going to BL there in the future.

so if i run bb's in the tires then just don't use any foams right, also i should put 4 cells up front & 3 in rear, i think that is my plan for the batts....i have all the stuff coming in the mail thru the rest of this week, and just trying to find out some more info is all

What tires are you running? If you are running moabs or masher 2K's I would star cut the foams to keep the sidewalls from buckling. You will still get the grip.

i'll be running moabs, and how hard is it to cut them in the star pattern, it doesn't look to hard

It depends on how precise you want to be. I just use a sharp razor blade. I lay the foam on it's side and cut down. You could measure them out. Make sure you leave enough material in the center to keep it round. Make the points of the stars sharp so that when the BB's roll around the don't get hung up on them.
