Smallest pinion on Emaxx w/10L and Ofna 51? - 08.29.2005, 09:59 AM

Hi,
I have an Emaxx with a Feigao 10L with 14t pinion and Strobe/Ofna 51 spur. On my small track I can usually only run 1/2 throttle and it's a little hot so I would like to gear down. All Mike had in stock was a 10t so I ordered that late last week, but now looking at my tranny and motor I'm not sure if it will fit. There's not much room to move the motor over toward the tranny so I'm not sure it will move enough to take up the mesh on the 10t. Would a 12t or 13t be a better fit, or will the 10t actually fit once I get it? I know I haven't even tried it, but if it's not gonna fit I need to order other pinions soon so I can maybe be up and running for the long weekend.
Thanks!
--Jonathan

Oh yeah -- I'm running the G-maxx single speed tranny with Ofna/UE diffs and 40HD series Mashers which up the gearing a bit from stock.

is it only the temp issue?

sometimes gearing it up may result in a cooler setup..

Yeah, mostly temp issue. I was confused on my earlier post about pinion sizes -- I currently have a 14t and 12t.

I tried a 14t but it got hot even quicker, the 12t went almost 10 minutes and the 14 only 5 so I'm thinking smaller will help. I got the 10t last night and am going to try it tonight. It looks like it will just fit, since now I am going from a 12t to a 10t rather than what I posted above. I also got a fan and will add that as well, I'm hoping the fan will make the difference.

Also timing and frequency seem to make a difference? Would the stock settings for a Hacker motor be the same for the Feigao? I figure they're similar in construction so Hacker motor settings should apply to Feigao motors as well?

Got it to fit - 08.31.2005, 10:12 AM

Ok, I got the 10t to fit -- man, was it tight going on with the shim! I'm gonna have to rig up a gear puller to get it off, but luckily I have a broken bicycle chain toll that I think will work perfectly as a gear puller.

The truck ran great for a few minutes -- great acceleration and finally many wheelies with my heavy beast! Exactly what I wanted!:L:

After a few minutes though the truck stopped turning and looking at the servo it was melting!! I had a bent pillowball that was binding up the steering which caused the servo to burn out. New JR9000 on the way. Does someting have to break everytime I run this thing? :C:

Too bad it is just so darn fun!!

Glad you got the pinion to work! Too bad on the servo, though!

What kind of diffs are you running, also what do you consider a heavy truck. I was looking at the 10L also on my truck.

I'm running the UE/Ofna diffs 6 spyder. I'm sorta guessing my truck is around 14lbs with batts and 40 series Mulchers. It's basically all SuperMaxx Aluminum, the aluminum adds up!

edit -- for another thought...

I got the 10L thinking it would be a decent match for my Hacker Comp controller based on advice from another online shop. After visiting here and reading, if I were to do it again for my truck I would have bought the 7XL and a 9920 and just ditched the Hacker. In fact that's what I am going to do once Mike gets the 9920s back in stock! ~this site/forum rules!

Good idea! This motor should have no problems pushing your heavy beast around.
