I Need Motor Help!!! -
03.10.2008, 09:02 PM
iight guys im doin a muggy conversion and i was goin to just do a 10xl but my original plan was for a 1521/1y. but now im confused decisions, decisions, decisions. well anyway i need some help im goin to run 6s no hv setup for me not yet. but my motor choices r the 10xl, a 1521/1.5d, a 1521/1y, or the 1527/1d( i kno its a high kv motor its like 2100kv and will prolly draw crazy amps but it should still be a torque monster) have a neu 4900 25c that will be in the truck and it a decent battery so it needs a good motor. coming guys help me out here.

Racing or bashing?
6s esc limits your options to a handful of controllers- Quark, MGM, Jazz maybe, or the MMM, unless you can live with a forwards only + mech brake setup = airplane escs at your disposal.
I think a lower kv like about 1500-1700 for 6s, then with those larger Neu 1521 motors you will have greater torque for higher gearing, and speeds easily in excess of 40mph+, with cooler temps and longer runtimes to boot.
The battery you have is a 6s item I take it?

i really don't know why there would be a toss-up between the nue motors or a feigao. seems like an easy decision if you're willing to spend the money.

I think either motor would be great, it may boil down to what you can find in stock.

Great vid!
I’m curious how that crazy torque in your vid translates on paper (using BrianG’s calc)? What’s your muggy’s front/rear diff gearing and tranny gear ratio? I’m interested to see what your calculated mph and ft-lbs torque equal versus what was seen in your vid…
~Thanks…

Hard to believe it is 22/46 (according to vid) gearing!
Differential Ratio: 4.09
Transmission Ratio: 1
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 46
Pinion Tooth Count: 22
Total Voltage: 22.2
Motor KV: 1577
Tire Diameter (inches): 5.7
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor coil Ω: 0.008
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 2.09 : 1
Total Ratio: 8.55182 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 17.91 inches (454.84 mm)
Total Motor Speed: 35009.4 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 69.42 mph (111.51 km/h)
Effective Speed Rate: 3.13 mph/V (5.02 kmh/V)
Estimated Adjusted Speed: 63 mph (101 km/h) - 10% loss
Effective KV Value: 1577
Motor Torque: Amperage not specified...
Final Torque: Amperage not specified...
Final Power: Amperage not specified.

Strange, that doesn’t seem to add up…
At max voltage the 1521/1y is rated to draw 75amps. With your configuration (at least according to BrianG’s calc) that’s only 2.86ft-lbs torque with a crazy top speed of 63mph. The smaller torque number is what’s strange. Your vid clearly didn’t look like only 2.8ft-lbs torque as you were easily pulling the front-end a decent speed.
???

max amps = watts/your voltage; more like 135 amps

^not this again. Nobody can seem to explain this to me. Sorry for the noob lack-of-understanding here; but how can you calculate your watts without having an amperage figure?
Where is the 2997w figure coming from?

Max watts of motor is 3000, But to be accurate you would need an eagle tree or other accurate amp reading.
