Another E-revo reveiw....Failure.. -
06.04.2008, 08:02 AM
Well i picked up the latest copy of Rc Car Action....they have a E-revo review... i thought YAY electic conversions.... then i went booo novak system....the more boo only 3s...
Specs-Revo 3.3
-Chassis
Vantage Carbon Fiber chassis
RPM hubs and arms
Traxxas Tierod tubes, GTR shocks, sway bars and rocker set
-Drivetrain
Tekno Rc conversion kit
FOC
40mm flywheel
-Electronics
HItec Hs-645mg servo
Novak Hv 6.5 system (yuck)
Maxamps 3s 5000mah(wtf?)
-Looks
Bow ties
Desert rat body
Why do all electic conversion reveiw have to be low powered cars... i have seen 2 revo conversions both using 3s and one hyper 7 conversion that was on 2100mah 4s?! Its rediculous, i just dont get why they dont feature mainstream "everyday" conversions, MM, Xl and 4-5s?
anyone have any input?

It could be because the masses want something somewhat simple & reliable.
Not everyone has the time to test, tinker, and build. Albeit, that's a huge part of the fun in this hobby.
Then again they might wanna feature a truck that's more tried & trued/gonna last than something built to push the envelope.

They did review a "mainstream" conversion...what you listed is NOT mainstream by any means. Every hobby shop around me sells Novak HV systems. Only one has anything other (the occasional Mamba). And BTW, the HV-Maxx is limited to 4S, so using 3S was probably just on the safe side (am I wrong there? I run NiMh, so I'm not an expert on Lipo).
Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

Hvmaxx is technically limted to 4s lipo, but that is a nice safe voltage to use- the esc will run on 5s lipo with no special work, it just gets abit toasty after a short period of time....
Im guessing they used 3s because a 4s lipo is abit too big to look 'proper'?
If only some of the guys around here could get their stuff featured, it would make wimpy conversions like what magazines do look totally crap by comparison.

If someone has a well done conversion I am sure if they send an email to the rc magazine with a brief write up and some pics they would at least be considered (maybe).
Essentially, you can't wait for them to come find you, take what you have to them. If they aren't interested, then that is their fault.

Why would they do this review when the actual E-Revo is just around the corner?

who knows lucias, and all thes Mainstream things.... You can easily go out and pick up a Hyper 7, RCM mount, 9xl, mm, and 4s pack and KNOW that it will work....

Not trying to make people mad, But the novak is close to nitro. I run one for about 6 months before going high power(current setup is a Neu 1515/2.5d, quark 125 esc and 5s lipo) and i could run with the nitro's with my G2R/novak 4400hv. I lapped the field a time or two while racing it. If i were to race and could deal with temps, I'd run a novak in racing. The novak can run with the nitro without blowing off the tires and run more consistant. I love my High power setup, but its too much for the track in most cases
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

I wouldnt disagree with that, since for racing 30-35mph with great acceleration is what you want, and the hvmaxx has exactly that. You could look at it another way though, and say it just shows how underpowered nitro engines are...

im not going to lie I kinda like a nitro engine on the track. I'm an on/off the throttle kind of driver(no skillz) and the low torque of a nitro makes me a smoother driver.
used to ride wheelies out of every corner with my erevo when I had it.

I must be the only one who noticed that the truck has no brakes. No mech brakes, and no mention of locking it in 2nd gear either. Just the usual BS that the mags put out. I have seen a few more conversions done in the latest mags and they fall short of complete too. I even say a teckno conversion in a mag, with the clutch and all, with no mech brakes!
It is mainly BS that the mags put out. Every issue has great tech articles on how to use loctite and how to wash your hands, and how to set steering trim. What a load of crap. I only read them for the ocassional tamiya review, and to see what piss poor numbers the latest 600 dollar nitro engine produces...
