I do not think that steel is an option for sure it is way toooooo heavy. Aluminum is a better choice, and if you construct it correctly it will do pretty well, but everything has a breaking point. Maybe if you build some kind of shock absorbing system into the cage it will survive what you are doing to your truck. Have you taken a look at the "RC solutions" roll cages? They are pretty cool looking and seem to hold up better than most. Good luck with your choice.
