Losi XXT tranny problems. - 10.16.2008, 01:57 AM

I just purchased an XXT and decided to do somthing dumb. I put an VXL system and 3s LiPo on it and had great fun, for about 5 minutes. Now its clicking very loudly. Still gets power to the rear wheels, just not as much. It sounds like when a Maxx truck is losing a ring and pinion but I took the tranny apart and didn't find any bad teeth. I know that a lot of the XXT and XXXT are interchangable, but I don't know what parts I need to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

The answer is no. And yes, mine is faster.

Those ball diffs are rather notorious for not being able to take a lot of power. You can try tightening the ball diff as a temporary fix, but it's probably going to need to be rebuilt. And when you do rebuild it, it will have to be set tight, otherwise it'll wear out fast again.

What do you mean tight? The center screw? And I did tighten it, didn't help. What parts generally go bad in these things? I noticed there are no bearings, only bushings Can I upgrade? Sorry for the noob questions, its hard to find any info on these things anywhere.

The middle screw on the diff is how you control how tight the diff will be - and by tight, I am referring to how much slip it will have (the tighter the diff, the less slip).

If you tightened up the diff (through the screw) and it didn't help, it probably needs to be rebuilt. I'm sure you can buy a rebuild kit somewhere, which should include two steel donut-shaped rings, two small rings, and a bunch of steel diff balls.

As for the bushings, I am of no help there - never owned a Losi.

I found some idler gears for it but I can't find any other parts. Anyone else have one of these things? Where can I get parts? Not even Ebay have much for this truck. I just want to get the tranny fixed so I can sell it.

Give this place a try I have gotten quite a few trans parts for my xxx-t from them. Pretty good prices and a good selection of losi xxx parts.

What place? RC-Monster? They don't have anything on the XXT or I would. I don't have the XXX. And after doing some digging the tranny parts are not interchangable.

Go to a local rc track or hobby shop. Someone should be able to help you. Probably need new balls for the diff, those rings that set up against the balls and the drive cups, and probably a new thrust bearing. Unscrew that center screw, make sure you take note of how things are attached and in what side/order, that will pull your two output drive cups apart from your differential gear, you'll see all the ball bearings and the two rings they ride against. Make sure you find a how to or use the manual if you got one when doin it, so you know which lube goes where. I kinda got a crash xxx-t tranny 101 course the other day when I was messin with mine, doin it wrong, tearin it apart, puttin it back several times over. The exploded parts view is very helpful.

Yeah I tried the hobby shops, but the XXT is out of date and noone local has any parts. The assembly/disassembly is pretty straight foward and easy. I ordered parts from http://www.losipartshouse.com/servle...rts/Categories and hope they get here soon. I was the idler gears.

I had the same problem with the xxx-t trans, it ran great on the old novac sped control, and 19 turn trinity brushed motor. Once I put the mm 5700kv combo on 8 cell elite 4500mAh NiMh it ate the teeth right off of the idler gear.
