NeuEnergy battery tray ? -
11.29.2008, 02:34 PM
I have a 5s NeuEnergy batt that I need a battery tray for. It's sides are 52mm and 43 mm. The wider sides are what I would like to lie it on but those are the sides with wires. Would it be better to buy the tray for the smaller sides so that there is less of a chance to damage the wiring? Or could I just put some padding in the tray and put it on the wider side? And last, should I buy the tray about 2 mm larger for a good fit?
thanks

Get a custom tray from the Monster. I ordered one and it only took a week to get to my door.

I had the same problem trying to put a Maxamps 4s pack in my Slash. The wire exits right where the tray sides are. The only options are to dremel out a notch, mount the batteries on edge, or get a tray wide enough to route the wires and just use foam padding to fill the gap. Dremeling out a notch might be the easiest but might also weaken the tray walls.

I made a batt tray for my trug, and the zippies I use have a side wire. I notched the tray making sure the batt was oriented so the wires would be in back, and towards the top of the pack.
That way the notch was minimally deep as well in a spot where the battery is not likely to hit the tray the hardest. IOW, most crashes are frontal, the front batt walls will take the most abuse. Lastly, put some foam in both ends to cushion the blow and distrubute the load. Never had a prob w/ my trays.

The only additional problem with the notching idea is if using something like a Slash/Pede/Rustler/etc where the tray walls act as part of the chassis. For that, additional bracing would probably be the easiest, or arrange the cells on edge so the wires face upwards. Makes the COG a bit higher and requires some type of foam or something to fill the sides up to the walls though.
