The manual states that the car mode is only "one direction" with proportional brake. There is a special mode which has the same effect as if you would switch 2 of the 3 motor cables ... reversing motor direction. It's a matter of sofware. The jive ESCs do miss the second car mode (which you will find in Jazz ESCs) which had reverse incorporated.
