The silicon is just too flexible not to mention messy. If you can get your hands on some double sticky tape like carpet tape it is not only easy to work with, but comes off a lot easier when you want it to. Just put a strip of it around the metal ring so it will help keep the tire in place. I am doing the same with my wheels, as I now have 4 sets of the Axial brand, with another set on the way. Let me know how things work out for you.
