new problem - 02.17.2009, 11:14 PM

i snagged my MM 7700 from my M0-3 for my slash, gearing is stock running 2.2 bowties ran fine in the mini now it just coggs from a dead stop and dosent seem to completly spool up tried 3300 6,7, 8 cell packs. then a 2 and i beleive we even tried a 3s lipo all the problems were the same regardless of battery. it almost seemed like the amp draw was too much for anything to work. what should i try next?

Wow, the 7700 is a really high kv motor for the Slash, even geared really low IMO. You're probably hitting the limit of the ESC and batteries with that setup. I didn't even like the 5700 on my Slash. I'd suggest 3s on a 3100-3500 kv motor. The Medusa 36-50-3300 or equivalent works MUCH better. Personally, I run 4s on the 36-50-2200 motor and it runs great and cool.

Sounds like the motor is dying. It must have gotten too hot at some point and killed the rotor magnet. That would make it cog no matter how you ran it. Did it run fine in the M0-3 the last time? It could be that the difference in weight between the M0-3 and the Slash made a big difference, where the heavier vehicle made the cogging more apparent.

I suppose it could be the MM, but unless you noticed problems when you were running it in your Revo then I doubt it's fried. Ask one of your friends to lend you another motor to test it out with in the Slash. That would tell you which one is the problem.

Check the motor to esc connections. If you are still using the stock 4mm bullets? If so they are most likely the problem. If you can direct solder the wires and see if that cures the problem...

+1 to Linc. I completely forgot about that! If you have a bad connection(s) it is going to limit the current to the motor and cause cogging.
