I haven't personally run a Medusa with the HW EZRun ESCs. I believe there are guys on the E-Savage.com forum that run this combo though without problems or cogging. I run the HW motors which I haven't had a problem with, but I run them on 3s (2350kV) and 4s (2300kV). I think one of the reason for the HW motor failures is that they were being run at 6s, pushing them to 52krpm, which is too high for an entry-level motor. I don't push entry-level motors much beyond 40krpm. All my HW motors are running between 25krpm and 35krpm and they stay very cool.
If you run a 4-pole motor with the HW EZRun ESC, start the timing at 7.5deg and go up slightly from there if you need to.
