Mini Tazer BL problems - 03.29.2009, 12:16 AM

My little bro bought a brushless for his Mini-LST today. When I installed it it was really slugish at first then it would take off and be fine. I don't understand why it would be like "Turbo Lag". I even tried it on one of my 2s and 3s lipos, same thing happened. The setup is a Mini Tazer BL esc, Hacker E-30-16L, and 6 cell nimh, 2s lipo or 3s lipo. Please help.

It's cogging.

Usually this happens if the battery doesn't have enough power, or the gearing is too tall. What is the gearing you're using and how big are the tires?

I know the Dynamite ESC doesn't have much for settings (personally I don't like the ESC, overpriced and underperforming) but what are the settings? Is it set for lipo use?

What is the KV of the motor? Hacker's website only lists a e30 11L and 13L, not a 16L.

Youre not using the stock pinion are you!? That would be wayyy to tall. I would gear down are get a better esc. I don't know why you would get the dynamite... A mamba micro pro or sidewinder would be nice. A 1/10 sidewinder would be even better...

The motor is 4150kv, so I thought the stock gearing would be ok, but I guess not. We are going back to our LHS to return the tazer and get a mamba micro pro or a sidewinder. What gearing would you suggest.

Jesus, I don't know but wayy lower then stock. 4150kv is not low kv. 1800kv is low, and could probably handle that gearing. See what other people are running and gear similarly.

I used to run a 7k motor on 3s lipo. My gearing was around 18/60. I had a Quark 33a controller. It ran pretty well.

I would think with a motor that low in KV that there should be little cogging even with stock gearing with I think is 23/55, but you should start with something closer to 18/60 anyway and go from there. I'm guessing the ESC or batteries are the culprit. That ESC just sucks. Personally I'd get a HobbyWing 35A controller. Or just throw away the MLST and get a 18T or something . But the CC controller should be solid.

Get an xtm rage. The drivetrains on those things are built to last. They hold up to BL stock.
