I used to run a 7k motor on 3s lipo. My gearing was around 18/60. I had a Quark 33a controller. It ran pretty well.
I would think with a motor that low in KV that there should be little cogging even with stock gearing with I think is 23/55, but you should start with something closer to 18/60 anyway and go from there. I'm guessing the ESC or batteries are the culprit. That ESC just sucks. Personally I'd get a HobbyWing 35A controller. Or just throw away the MLST and get a 18T or something
. But the CC controller should be solid.
