3 springs aren't needed. There is about 150 pounds of force on the slipper by the time you simply start to flatten the two included springs and much more when you flatten them out - and there is no noticeable slip at all with this setting(flat springs). Also, adding a 3rd spring will make it quite a PITA to install the slipper-side end cap - it took quite a bit of time and research to tweak everything so it could be built without a curse-fest - the 1st 3 or 4 versions had similar spring tension, but more spring travel and was a real b!tch assemble - always fighting the spring. :)
