I have a Hyperion EOS7i that does the same overvoltage error (with or without a balancer) if charging more than ~3.6A but only when the cell voltage gets to ~4.0v. Below ~3.8v, I can go to the full 7A rate of the charger.
I've been using the same charger (Pro Peak Prodigy 2) for months now, as long as I've owned the packs, and have never had a single overvoltage error when charging them without the balancer. I charge all those three LiPos at 5A, the maximum the charger will flow. I tried charging at a lower rate, 2A, with the balancer to try and remedy the overvoltage error, but it didn't help.

Hopefully this somewhat-off-yet-on-top discussion is helping YOU, magman.
