What speed controller to use???? - 07.05.2009, 04:57 AM

Hi guys i have a G3R CF build that is in desperate need of a new speed controller as the MGM i had on it has just bit the dust for the second time.

I am running a 1521 1Y and would like to run 6-8s. I have already tried the MMM and it doesn't have enough in it for prolonged 6s use.

So what contorller do you guys think i should use.

If the MMM can't cut it, try Castle's Hydra HV240. Even without water cooling it should handle what you want. Just talked to a guy running one in a Baja 5T with a Neu 2215 motor. He says it doesn't even get hot. Expensive though.

You'll be hard up finding an esc that can handle the braking then

What MGM where you using? If it was an older model, perhaps one of the newer ones (with higher current rating) would be a good replacement.

I was using the 280A Zseries model. It is the second time this speed controller has failed and to tell you the truth i am getting a little sick of it. I saw the recordings from the black box and the highest amp draw was just under 75A. I would like to run a hydra but i would have to make a custom chassis for that. There isnt really a lot of room to mount a brake servo and brakes on a gorillamaxx G3R chassis

Something from Kontronic perhaps? The newer Jive models have brakes but no reverse I think, and pretty decent current ratings, along with something like 8s to 12s capability depending on the specific model.

Give Lutach a buzz and see if he has any 10s controlers left.

I was curious of how the hydra would handle, so I got myself 2 of the HydraHV 240 and 2 of the Hydra 240... If you get yours before mine, let use know how it works for Land vehicles..
