RX8 combos vs MMM combo's

CC and Tekin both have top notch customer service. I've had a MMM replaced thorugh CC warranty and it took longer than I expected, but it might have been several factors in this out of CC's control.

I hope to speak highly of my Tekin 4030 1700kv motor I just bought for my RC8, I'll be sure to report once its running. Outward appearance is enough to see that Tekin takes pride in the presentation of their name.

I race with a guy who runs both the mamba combo and the tekin combo, one in his e-revo and the other in an eight2.0. Watching these 2 R/Cs on the track, you could tell they were both brushless, but apart from that, there was nothing that you could tell the difference between the 2 systems until you looked under the body. The last time I have talked to Castle, they said their MMM failure rate is less than 1%, which is far far better than the V1 and V2 MMMs. Just like if you read the whole MaxAmps thread (60c Really in general discussion), if you had one, or several MMM's detonate on your watch, you might be weary to trust them in a race. Although, recently, with the refurbished MMM's for sale, it has made it very affordable to have a backup speed controller, no matter which system you are running.

Bottom line: either way you go, you wont be sorry. Each company has their own small advantages here and there, like an included PC connection, or a visible temperature probe right on the speed controller, sensored operation, included high current quick disconnectors. It will mainly come down to how you race(or bash), and which ESC tailors your needs the most.

PS: no intention to bash either Tekin or Castle

I don't have any experiance with tekin and only race competitivly with my 3 CC combos and can say that they are awsome, I figure that all speed controlers will eventually fail there is just so much that can and will go wrong from drag in the drive train to under rated lipos gforce and on. my 2 cents

Has anyone here smoked their RX8 yet in normal running conditions:

ie. Did not drown it
did not break and short wires etc

My replacement MMM turned up today after smoking my original v3 in 20mins, and my RX8 is only a day away from landing on my doorstep (I purchased it while being impatient not knowing how long my MMM warranty replacement would take).

Which one should I keep? So far I'm leaning towards the RX8 but I have no experience with its reliability, my experience with the MMM is down right disappointing but it could have just been "one of those things", you get faulty product in every catergory of goods.

The RX8 only has a 90 day warranty so you may want to use it for now so if it's going to fail you get it to fail while under warranty. The MMM is a good ESC, it puts up with my Muggy quite well and I drive that heavy beast pretty hard.

I am not sure if there is any difference between them at all. I always assume if a good maker sell a product it is a good product.

Of course we have to read the conditions under what the systems must be used.

I am writing from Europe, in my town we are already 5 electric racers. 4 MMM, 1 Tekin.

Mamba guys have been racing from the beginning, I have myself already 16 hours of track race or practice and we had to take the switchs out, our ESC fans stopped working already but nothing that we can not live with. Tekin guy, raced the first day than had the rotor problem, the rotor came he raced again and his ESC fan stopped too.

But beside those minor details, the systems work great, we have a lot of fun racing against nitro, and I made already two 45 minutes finals in the two races I joined.

So as far as I can tell both system are the best we can buy. They need some work, fans, switchs? Well as everything else in our cars, nothing different.

I've been looking at the two systems too and the warranty difference is somewhat swaying my decision. I like a lot of the features of the Tekin (and less importantly, I like the looks of the Tekin ESC and T8 motors), but at 120 day warranty vs. CC's 1yr warranty, I'm leaning toward the CC. My time to play with my RCs is limited and sometimes will go months without running a thing, enough time that I may get a Tekin, not run it 3-4 months and be out of warranty period before any real time has been put on the electronics. That's a concern for me. If Tekin could match CC's warranty, that'd be really nice.

I RACE both systems (MMM Neu 1512.2.5d) and Tekin 2050. They are both smooth and are good for the track. It takes more time to set up the MMM and make it smooth but it can be done. The Tekin feels very good on the track with minimal set up time.
The Tekin runs hotter than the Castle.

+1 I am in the same situation as you are. I will use my rc trucks and then put them away for the next 3 months so...the Tekin warrantee concerns me. However, I bought a rx8 combo, 1550 on 6s for my Revo conversion. The truck has been done for 2 months....I have only had time to run it for 20mins. total.

After my second race day I have noticed the biggest difference between the MMM and RX8 is the brakes. The brakes on the RX8 are super smooth and consistant.

That is a nice clean ride.

i like the look of the rx8, but i think MMM must be selling a ton more units because of the ERBE and the Flux.. so for every smoked MMM you hear about how many are sold.. and for hamant messed up RX8s are sold how many are sold...

I have a ERBE and just got a MBX6-T... dont now what im going to install.. i might just go with a MMM because i have back up.
