Uh oh......decided to get my T2 going again! -
01.14.2006, 03:30 AM
I got it about a year ago as a roller for $30, slapped some Lunsford goodies on it, dropped my Lehner 5300/7018 system in and had lots of fun with it. A couple months ago I decided I'd try and run my Ofna's Lehner 2800xl in it and would need 32p gears for that to work, didn't have the right ones to make it work, pulled off the front springs to go on another car, and abandoned the poor T2 in the garage......
.....until today! Bolted in the old Lehner system, charged up a Sanyo 3600 7 cell..........and no throttle response. Looked at the 7018 a bit closer, saw that a capacitor had broken off, resoldered it (yes, the RIGHT way, MetalMan :D ), and still nothing. Pulled off the red jumper to try and reprogram, thing was DOA the second it hit the work bench I guess, so I ditched it to just go with a quick brushed setup to get it going. Pulled the Super Rooster out of my crawler Clod, grabbed a donor Speed Gems 2 "Opal" 10x3, and put it all together. Bench revved it a few times, everything looks good, let's try it out in the street.
Ran decent, wasn't hitting full rpm, thought it might be from the cells not being run in a while........until "it" happened. Was running it around for another few minutes with the body off, came out of a turn, pulled full throttle, and saw a massive spark from the motor, followed by smoke. I ran over, and couldn't believe what I saw: melted motor! I guess it was undergeared, with crapola brushes, and a super messed up comm, and it just heated up.....a lot, enough to melt the solder on the wires!
So, left that out in the garage to cool off and stop smoking, ate dinner, then dropped my Orion Method R 19x2 in and went out to finish off the 3600 pack. Amazing how well something works when it's not crud! Got great speed, fairly hard acceleration, but it'd loop out in turns..........oh well, better tires would fix that. Anyway, once the 3600 died, I got to use the pack I was really looking forward to, my brand new IB4200, for the first time. Seemed to have almost the same performance of the 7 cell, and I got a solid 15 minutes from just the first charge.......and none of the electronics even got hotter than warm!
Pics coming tomorrow!

I am running the T2 with an 8S/9920 and 3S lipo.
I have to admit, it is quite some power for that light little thing.. It flies, makes uncontrollable wheelies and is one UFO when it hits topspeed (if you are able to get it above 1/2 of a WOT... :p )
On tarmac with a bit too much sand laying on it, it just floats over the road, like an uncontrolable ship.. a bit more throttle and the lightest steering it is out of control.
Too much power i guess or the wrong tires. (using the proline road tires, they have got a soft compound, just not soft enough i guess..)

Hey Dabid, if you want a 32 pitch gear get a rc10gt kimborough gear, should bolt in to the slipper
Work because i gotta, play because i wanna
People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

I know the Kimbrough would bolt in, but I didn't have the right selection of gears to make that work: the smallest pinion I have is a 15t and the only spur was 66t, WAY too huge to fit.
Serum, I had some issues with the 5300/7018 system from the first time I put it in that truck, I think it's 'cause I had the rear wheels too tight and a couple of the tranny screws were rubbing on the slipper plate, but now the 7018 is dead. I think the 5300 is still good and has another year of life left in it, so I might get a Mtroniks controller from Hobby People when we start carrying them.

I know, but I don't think it totally ran to its full potential when I had that system in there, so I'll hold onto the 5300 until I have another good controller. Can't really blame the 7018 though, it was in maybe "decent" condition when I first got it, now it's been beaten pretty badly, and lived in my garage and got beaten up even more........it's dead now as a result.
Back to the point at hand though, yeah, that was a kicking system for the T2........as you can see in it's first movie appearance here. It's an old vid from at least 6 months ago, hoping to bump to 8 or 9 cells next time I get it going, 6 and 7 was cool though but I could always use more power. :D

Its a real blast to drive on 8 cells..I made a small lexan plate for my T2 which re-located the servo, allowing upto 9 cells flat down the middle. Yours should fly with a 5300 nicely, I would recommend picking up a Robinson Racing steel idler though, I started eating them on 8 and 9 cell batteries so I now have a steel idler and alloy diff gear turning up any day.
The T2 is easily my favourite chassis of 1:10 ST, very hard to damage anything, and aftermarket support for it is perfect (most RC10GT parts fit). Exactly what you want for a good basher.

The T2's outta commission until I replace a shock end, ripped one of them off during the last bashing session.
