I have a Hot Bodies Lightning 2 Pro 1/8 buggy and if i want to converd it to a brushless buggy i must need a motor mount.

I see only one motor mount for sale here and it's a 'Brushless motor mount - Hot Bodies Lightning Stadium'

Will this 'stadium' mount fit my 'buggy' properly?

I have a MMM so it must fit that size motor

Since the stock diff mount and center diffs are the same from buggy to truggy aside from tooth count I would assume it'll be a direct fit.

I have one and like it but it is not a 100% direct fit, the diff in the stadium sits 3mm higher than in the buggy so to use the stadium motor mount you have to fit a 3mm spacer under the front diff mount, the stadium chassis is slightly wider, with my old style mount I had to cut a corner off it to clear the mudguard although the newer mounts look like they may just clear, also the holes for the top diff brace are in a different places, you can redrill the existing brace but only 3 screws will fit, I drove it for a while with a m3 locknut (3mm tall)on the sctews between the chassis and front diff mount to raise it up, and with only 3 screws in the diff mount which worked well enough but looked a bit rough so after a while I measured up and designed a spacer and top brace for mike to make for me, I told Mike he could use the design for future buggy users so he should still have it on file if you want the brace and spacer too, feel free to mention my name Paul Upton-Taylor from England to jog his memory if you want the parts

although it looks like the diff is angled it is just a product of the angle of the photo and it sits straight between the 2 mounts, its just the holes in the top of the mounts that are out of line

same parts fitted, and not to blow my own trumpet they fitted perfectly.

The Kyosho plastic Spurs fit the Hot Boddies diffs, I think the one pictured is 44t but I have used the 46t too, both fit well.

If you give me dimensions for the MMM motor you have I can check that it will fit.

When will you be doing your conversion? If all goes well I will be making myself a carbon fibre chassis, braces etc just after xmas and going onroad only with my buggy as I'm getting an Xray truggy for Xmas that I will use offroad.

I'll swap you my diff top brace, spacer, single servo plate, and old style RCM motor mount that is already cut to clear the buggy chassis for the new lighter style Lightning stadium mount so you can be 100% sure you won't have to do any metalwork at all if you want (although as I said before the new style mount does look as though it will fit the buggy without any cutting). As I wont be Jumping any more and will be spending a lot of effort making carbon parts to shed weight I will happily take the lighter but weaker new style mount but cant really justify the price of a new one when I have a perfectly good old style one already
The old style motor mount and my design of diff top brace have no provision for mechanical brakes so only consider this offer if you want to use motor brakes.

The spurs come from the Inferno sport, Inferno mp6 sport, inferno mp7.5 sport4, and probably every other inferno with sport in the name too, I think the 44t is also the stock gear on the inferno VE but I have not confirmed this.

Powah, post here when your mount comes in and if I have already made my braces we can exchange details for the swap or if not I'll pull my thumb out of my arse and get cracking with it, assuming my carbon is here by then (I ordered it last week so it should be).

I'll probably ship direct to you, UK post is pretty good and it wont cost me much more to send direct to you than it would within England.

No need for paypal, a straight swap works in both our favours, I get a lighter mount, and you get a mount that is guaranteed to fit the buggy and all the parts needed to fit it.

I decided to use thinner 2mm carbon that I have on hand already for the braces rather than the 3.5mm carbon I have coming for the chassis, so I made a start today, made a lightened carbon single servo top plate and fitted it, put the alloy on to one side to send to you, hopefully more progress soon, heres a pic of your alloy brace and my carbon one.

Sorry, I thought you understood wanted to swap, yes I want your motor mount in exchange for my motor mount that has been cut to fit the buggy, front diff mount spacer, diff top brace and single servo top plate.

If not tell me which bits you need, maybe we can work out something another way.

I finished making my carbon parts as can be seen here but when I took the mount off, I saw a couple of minor problems that I had forgotten about:-

Firstly I forgot that I had to cut down the countersunk screws that go through the chassis into the mount, I will still need the screws that I cut down so unfortunately if the new style mount needs the screws cut down too (and it looks like it will) my promise of a build without needing any metalwork done has been broken, although it is a relatively quick and easy job to cut them downwith either a hacksaw or a dremel, you can see in this picture roughly what length they needed to be shortened to.

The second problem is that I rounded off the head of a motor screw some time ago and drilled it out from the side, I didn't get it perfectly aligned and ate out a bit of one side of the top motor screw slot with the drill bit as can be seen in this photo

I had forgotten all about this as where my motor sits to mesh it doesn't effect it at all but if you use a larger spur or pinion the top motor screw may only be supported on one side of its head, while I can live with this I can't in good conscience swap it for a brand new mount when it may affect you, I will lighten my own mount and keep using that so you will not need to send me your motor mount.

PM me with your postal address and I will send you the diff top brace, front diff spacer, and single servo top plate as seen in the above photos free of charge. if the new style motor mount clears the mudguard you will only have to cut the motor mount screws down to fit your motor.
