would there be a big problem with running racing fuel in a baja? i've done quite a bit and i was going to bump up compression with a thinner head gasket but i figured id try it the easy way with higher octane fuel.i've got a new engine on the way already so i dont mind experimenting on the stocker.--josh

No issues running race fuel in a Baja, I run Sunoco 260GTX which is an unleaded race fuel. You can run leaded race fuels as well and should not have a problem.

The ethanol blended fuel isn't that big of a deal if you run it out of the carb before letting it sit for too long. Another tip is to use a fuel stabilizer like Stabil. I had a weedeater carb go bad in 2years without it. Now with the Stabil its going on 5 years now, I've never run the fuel out of the carb for winter and it runs like a top.

Yea - you're right, doing a search Pro Mix comes up on lawn mower sites and Lowes. I'll def use something better, I'll look into the others you mentioned. Would be nice to find something local if I can.

As far as gas without ethanol, there seems to be nothing available here except 5gal (or 55gal drums) cans of race fuel and at $11/gal, thats nuts. I've done the Stabil business for years since I do my own yard and it keeps the mower and edger, and blower from having probs during the winter when they're not getting used much.

I've never liked running one out of gas. All my 2 strokes had carb bowl vents so I could dump the fuel when I was thru. Have to look into that.

You want to run some really good 2 stroke oil in these things, Klotz SuperTechniplate is a favorite of many Baja owners. I run Motul 800 full synthetic with 87 Octane pump gas on a Sikk/DS engine with a DDM rear dom and 18/56 gears and it's plenty ballsy and has plenty of compression left after about 4 gallons.

What the landlord doesn't know, won't hurt her. Hell, if you bring your ass up here this spring, you can show me up all you want. Just don't expect to leave with all your "stuff"

I wish I could get my 5T sooner so I could enjoy playing in the snow unlike my Flux. I could if I wasn't going to Vegas next month but priorities are priorities....

Gotta warn you Freezebyte, the HPI Baja forums are not as forgiving as some of these other forums you have been posting in, your little HPI Warranty antics would not go down well, and there is a great deal more maintenance involved than you had with the Savage. I wonder if you're actually capable of running a Baja without having a meltdown emotionally! That said, they are slower but are still a lot of fun, you get better by learning and wrenching so I'd suggest a 5BSS for you over a 5T. I can swap an engine out now in my Baja in around an hour (far quicker than I was!)

Just have a std RTR Baja but with deanodized chassis etc, and a CY26cc in there now (not a hpi CY)

And yes it's had it's share of carnage! (Old 23cc got hammered one day....)

Nice looking Baja you got there! I had plenty of fun with mine (I think I just hate 2 stroke) just getting it started. I have a feeling the previous owner might have run straight gas in it, or maybe I am just poor at tuning 2 strokes... I would have kept it if husquavarna had made a motor for it. My 75cc husky chainsaw starts every time, no matter how old the fuel is... Maybe the upgrade motors are better than the hpi 23cc? I cannot imagine them being any worse.

And lol on the emotional meltdown... I had to laugh at that one. I wonder if freezy will have a smc rec pack? Or has he learned his lesson on crap batts?

Nothing against gas 2wd, but the flux is much more fun for me. And quieter. Just someting screwy about a "rc weedeater", even my shockwave 55 with the zenoah 26 gets on my nerves... And since the new house backs up to the water I will be getting on the neighbors nerves too! Need to finish the other 5 bl boats...

Hey James at least when they piss you off now you can setup a ramp and launch your irritating R/C's right off into the water. If your lucky enough any of your crappy neighbors might be sitting in a boat at the time. I just had a vision of you launching Harold wearing a dress in his wheelchair off into the lake. Sorry Harold. You guys put that vision out there with your antics. Too funny

I needed that laugh Jerry. Good stuff. I can just see us strapping some sort of reworked (poorly) fireworks to Harold's wheely chair... I can see it going well till the rockets explode in a dazzling arry of colors...and Harold's singed ass lands in the water... or possibly in the neighbor's boat!

I will be there tomorrow afternoon and will try to get some pics for you guys. Nice house, maybe too much... You only live once!, right?!

WOW that is even better than the vision that I saw. I bet Harold is going to laugh his but off when he reads this thread now. That is just tooo funny man. I knew you would come up with something that should be on U-Tube or something crazy like that. Sounds like a reason for a huge RCM gathering and BBQ. Pastrona doesn't have anything on Harolds stunt, or at least the stunt we have planned for him. We could sell tickets and just tell Harold to hang on for dear life, that everything will be just fine. We love ya man.

That's what we've been telling you on HBF for months! You threatening to steal my "stuff" or something? I already had 1 R/C stolen, not looking forward to getting another one lifted. I'll try to get about half a dozen of them in running order, that way it'll take me at least an hour to break them all to the point they can't be driven anymore and I have to drive 4 hours home

Watch out for snow and water with the 5T, the radio box is sprinkle-resistant but that's about it and the throttle servo gets wet very quick. I have run my Baja in the snow a few times and each time it lasts about 5 minutes before the throttle servo tweaks out (and I still don't have a killswitch ). Screw Vegas, you'll just lose a bunch of money and a kidney You could invest that money in a T and some goodies!
