Building A123 packs - 06.18.2010, 08:46 PM

Hi, I'm going to build a saddle pack for a 1/8 pan car I,ve built. I'll be using 8 A123 cells which I will configure in 2-2s2p packs. I need 42mm clear shrink and some solderit al. soldering paste. I recently picked up a 100 watt iron and some 63/37 solder. (I added the iron to my collection-5) Anyone know where I can get the shrink and the paste? Thanks, Don

Maxamps and Cheapbatterypacks.com have shrink wrap, but I'm not sure about clear. I know Mcmaster Carr has clear. The paste, I have no idea.

I know you can get the 63/37 at RadioShack, and you can get soldering flux/paste there too, but I haven't seen that specific brand you mentioned. Checking at some hardware stores would probably be the way to go.

I found the solder at HobbyLobby. TanicPacks had the shrink and some al. flux. Thanks, Don

I don't use any extra flux when I solder battery bars onto my A123's. I just use the regular 60/40 solder from Radio Shack. Grind the battery ends a bit and solder on with a 40W fat tip Weller from Sears.
