Well some here run the 1717 on 8s lipo and it does fine. I have run my 1717 on 6s lipo and it has a ton of power in a lst. I plan to run it in my 5th scale savvy on 6s and think it will do just fine. 8s1p a123 will drop to about 3v per cell under load, so you are looking at 24v. Should be fine.

Edit, saw you plan to run 8s2p, that will hold voltage better, but you should still be ok.
