Yes the thread is 4.75 mm. It will fit m5 locknut's, and yes if you really really want to you can get some m4 locknuts on with a bit of force.(stock traxxas is m4)

You will damage the thread trying to get a m4 locknut on.

Are you sure the stock Traxxas are M4? I thought they were M5 since I tried a M4 screw on one of my wheel nuts and it would go right through the center...
