Upgrading Revo to Brushless - Newb help - 12.09.2006, 10:53 AM

I have a Rolling Revo chassis with upgraded parts, CVDs, 3.3 Diffs, Alum Axle carries, Upgraded Shocks, 17mm Hub adapters etc...
I want to convert it to the Aluminum G2R chassis. Being new to brushless of this size - I am not sure what I would need to run it.

Goal for the project - ability to throw it on the track and compete (just club style racing) and run it around on the street or just a little bashing

I would like the complete brushless setup with batts.

Is the G2R still considered 1/10 Scale? If so thoughts on the Novak HV Maxx or the Mamba Max 7700?

I am not familiar with all the other brands of motors and esc out there so any recommendations for setups would be nice. I noticed the great X-mas specials on the 2 escs but again no familiar with them so would not know which would work for my application.

I currently have 2 Apogee 3800 lipos. Would these work or should I get 2 of the Max Amps 8000 batts?

Thank you in advance!

No, its a full breed monster truck. The 7700 won't pull that sled. (or not at the desired temperature/speed you want)

Welcome to the forum!

The apogee 3800's are great, and can be used. The maxxamps will give you roughly twice the runtime.

A good ESC would be either an MGM or a Quark, the HVmaxx is nice too, but less powerful, and you don't have got the ability to upgrade the motor to a bigger one. If you are planning on using a big-ass motor later, the MGM 24160 is a nice controller. The MGM 16160 covers the load just as well. (so is the Quark 125)

both controller have got a build in LVC to protect your lipo batteries (Low Voltage Cut-off)

In choice of motor; Mike (the owner of this forum) won about all the races with his Quark 125 / Neu 1515 1y motor. (on 4S lipo) Neu is a great motor. if you want the best bang for the buck, an 8XL would do nice on 4S too (a 90 dollar motor) the Neu will run cooler and will have a tad more torque. The Neu uses segmented magnets in it's rotor, which makes it run cooler on partial load (and partial load is used most of the time on the track)

For the Feigao/Wanderer (same motors, different colour) can be hooked up with an extra heat-sink in order to keep it cool.

As far as i know, there is no difference between the normal revo diffs and the 3.3's?

Welcome Big Sushi, the 3800 limn will be good, and the system Serum described will be the best setup but the HV will keep up with nitro's short of a truggy, I have raced with one and it was good but there is better in setups.

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Hey guys - thanks for the responses

What about this one Warrior 9920 Brushless Car Controller? It comes with software? So can this be programmed via my pc? Does it have the LVC feature? $150

And this one BK Electronics 12020 Warrior Controller? $225

The MGM 24160 is $365 and the 16160 is $265

Out of these which has the best bang for buck? Or why is the MGM so much more pricey over the others?

As far as motors go what is the benefits or advantages of the different sizes - ie
XL
L
S
I am guessing it has to do with length. So is a short 9 as fast as a 9XL for example?

Your answers;

No, no, yes, with extra programmer cable, no

The same as above

The warriors are a special offer. The MGM has got a build in LVC, and has got more programming features.

Forget the S motor. You need an L or an XL. The XL will give you more torque. With that higher torque, you can gear it with a bigger pinion. The higher the KV, the more powerhungry the motor is. (the quicker your cell are drained)

OK so you are saying the 9920 and the 12020 really wont fill my application? The 9920 is so attractive due to special...

When you say the MGMs have more program options do you mean via PC programming?

So would this make for a good setup?

Feigao 540C 7XL and the 16160?

That would be a good setup, but no, the WILL fit your application. You just have to buy an external LVC, BEC, and the programming cable, which I have heard isn't worth it..

PLus, IIRC, the software for the BK controllers won't work with WindowsXP, if that's what you're running...

EDIT Actually, now that I look at the website, it says the software will work with XP: http://www.lehner-motoren.com/download.php?la=en

I am thinking about getting a Mamba Max ESC and going with a Feigao 540C 8XL and getting some MaxAmps 8000mah.
Would this be a good setup? I really like the Mamba Max ESC - so easy to program.
Any word on their Mamba Monster Max?

That looks good. You may want to cool the ESC with a fan or something though.

Everyone's been waiting for the Monster Max, and the word around here is that it won't be out until around summer last I heard...

Me personally don't see the need for the bk program cable.
It can do a few changes but not alot.

Ok I placed the order with Mike today. After talking with him I stepped up to the Nue 1512 with the Mamba Max ESC, UBEC, a MaxAmps 4S 6000mah battery.

Can't wait to get it all!!:018: :018:

Thanks for all your help!

I believe it was the 2.5D. Mike recommended that one.

The 2.5d model has 2000 kv and works nicely.
I run this motor myself. I like it.
