35-40mph..... I like to be optomistic sometimes. I figure the lighter the truck, and the more cells -14 or maybe even 16 with a few tweaks to the esc-, and it should do 40 without too much trouble.... its just the heat issue. But then Novak must have taken that into account surely given the 70,000rpm+ the motor would be doing on just 12 cells (4.5 motor).

It makes me so sad I didnt have a digital camcorder when I finally made that last run with the TXT-1- insane acceleration/wheel spin, and amazing topspeed for a 12lb truck. I base the speed estimate on my old madbull- it does 20mph stock, and the TXT-1 was easily going nearly double that (the amount of ground covered in the same amount of time). It lacks torque, but speed is impressive....

Well, if it has enough torque at the top rpm range, that is all that matters for speed.

True, I guess the torque comes from the gearing:
1. XL can motors have oodles of torque so can gear up loads for more speed.
2. HvMaxx lacks torque but can rev much higher, so gearing down creates the happy medium between speed & torque required to shift the truck.

Something like that I think. All I know is it works when I plug it in & hit the throttle.... I will get a vid sooner or later of my truck working the way it should- its just pouring down with rain like you wouldnt believe at the moment = British summer........

Yea you could put 16 cells on the 1y for fun, but I wouldnt do anything more than a couple passes before letting the system cool down. The motor will be spinning over 40K rpm and will be drawing alot of amps with that big motor. Stuff will heat up quickly. But for a speed run or 2 and then let it rest it shouldn't be a problem.

Just keep a close eye on temps when you do it.

I personally get tired of that style of runnig very quickly, but occationally its fun to really pants someone who has a nitro that they think is fast.

So gearing im guessing 51/16 and 51/18 on 40 mashers? And what else will I need? Axles, Centers, Idlers, 1/8 diffs, 1/8 bulks, and pinion spur.

I wish more people could help me out tho. :(

With heavy tires like that you will probably be better off with the 51/16 gearing. But you can feel it in once you get it set up. 18T is not out of the question depending on the voltage you run.

If you check the store Mike now has 17T and 19T pinion gears listed. I dont know where he found them, but I'm glad he did. (Just ordered me a set the other day) Sure makes gearing alot easier 1 tooth at a time.

Ill be running 14 cells so 16.8 but more like 19 volts off the charger. Um would it be better to do a revo? Can the stock diffs on that handle the power? Should I start another thread that says "what do I need to run a NEU 1Y?" Also how do you know how mush your tires are going to expand? Is this motor better then a Bigmaxximum? Cause I saw how cool the 40 mashers look when they expand! :) :) :)
