Yes on the track lutach, I've cut down about probably 80-90 trees getting ready so far have another 60-70 left to get rid of, pesky little box elder trees.

Should make a good track.

I hope I can come up with a cool layout. I was thinking maybe just a bash park kind of deal, get a few dump truck loads of gravle and just pour piles around out in the back yard. LOL We'll see what happens.

Thanks! The battery is almost charged. I'll probably end up running it tonight since I'm going to see a movie in an hour with my bro and his wife. I should use high timing for the motor since it's a 4 pole, correct?

Start with medium timing and check temps.

Yep, thats what I did. Havent tried highest timing, no real need to push it any harder.

Mine is set for medium start power and high timing, works well on mine but start low and work your way up.

Yes, but you will need 5mm 32p pinions.

Ok, just got back from an approximate 15-20 minute run with the 4800 kv 50mm medusa V2 motor.

It's about 78 degrees out, sun was going down, and a relatively light breeze.

Model Setup:

-Rustler w/ RPM a-arms and swami bar (so maybe a tad heavier than a stock rustler due to the wheelie bar, which is a huge hunk of aluminum for the most part).
-Proline Road Rages all around
-Geared at 23/87 for a FDR of about 10.3:1 (by my speed calculator, it's about 35mph if voltage under load is about 7.4 volts)
-Battery was a Trinity 4500mah 2s lipo
-Full steel transmission (thank you RC-monster;)) and full ball bearings

Mamba Max setup:
-Custom timing, 12 degrees (in between normal and high)
-70% brake
-50% reverse
-Propotional throttle with reverse lockout
-Low start power
-0 punch control or drag brake
-6.2v cutoff
Results:

Motor temperature- 125F
Battery temperature- ~120F
ESC temperature (has a 5v Novak fan on it)- 98F

Overall impression:

This motor is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! It runs cool, it has plenty of torque, and it's super smooth. The truck just runs better overall, and this motor seems like it'll be perfect to run during the summer when temperatures hit high 80s and low 90s.

If anyone is considering one of the 50mm motors for a 1/10 truck like a Rustler, CRT .5, or anything else small, go for it! Well worth the money IMO.

In other news, I just ordered the FLM transmission (from, of course, Mike; now everything but the top gear is from RC-monster for the Rusty's tranny). The stock tranny looks like it's warping where the motor mounts.

Me too! LOL! I think it's just BEGGING to be geared up more though.... I fear the batteries are on their way out though with that temperature. Then again, they WERE in that stupid hard case that Trinity puts them in. I took 'em outta the case, and am considering just some shrink wrap. For now, I put them back in the case, since I don't want them shorting on anything by accident.

I wish I could find more deals on A123's I got my first 16 cells for $7.31ea, best I can find lately is around $12/cell.

Good lipos are too expensive to subject them to the sandblasting my trucks get, so the A123's are the way to go IMO. Tough to fit in some vehicles though.

I even converted my MQ SE to 2s 1100mah A123's this weekend the little 1100 cells are pretty sweet for the fact I can charge them @8.8a. I do feel the voltage drop from 2s 1500 lipos though so I either need to gear up or drop in a higher kv motor(medusa 28-xx).

I've considered A123s, but for me, I'd have to buy the charger too. Coupled with a 2s2p pack, I'd be far beyond broke at the moment... Oh well...

The lipo I have now isn't puffed at all, so I think it'll hang on in there. I'll try drilling the case for some cooling holes (without the lipo in there of course) and see if that helps.

I here ya, my last charger was bought just at the begining of the A123 craze so I bought one with the capability even though it took me over a year to try A123.

I just saw the Onyx series of Duratrax chargers....so maybe A123s aren't ruled out quite yet. The one I'm looking at is about 80 bucks street price, does 1-3 lipos/liFe/liion cells, or 1-8 Nimh (psh...inferior technology...lol!) cells. Charges at up to 7 amps too, which is a huge step above my outdated Vision Peak Ultra or whatever in lipo mode. My charger is getting kind of old .

I need a job first. I just got back from school. With the economy taking a nose dive, it may be another few weeks before I get a job.

Too be honest that onyx looks to be a bit limited in performance. http://www.slkelectronics.com/lipodapter/index.htm I've been thinking about one of these.
