Converting to lipo - 11.06.2005, 07:14 AM

I'm sorta debating to go lipo in a few month's, so naturally I got a question. Would 2 of these pack's be better then 12 gp cell's?

Lipoly 4200mah 2S2P 7.4V Pack

* 4200mah Capacity
* 7.4 Volts
* 35mm X 98mm X 34mm
* Rated at 60 Amp Constant Discharge
* Rated at 80 Amp Burst for 10 seconds
* 245 grams
* Other configuration options available upon request
* Pack comes standard with JST Female taps

(from maxamps.com)

I plan on keeping my 'ol hacker master competition esc with the c50, but if these pack's doesn't give me allot more power over nihm's i'd go for something better. But what?

My main consern is speed and run time, minimal of 15 minute's. Would these pack's work?

what kind of run times do you get know. you will probably get more than 15 minutes. you might want something with a higher discharge rating though.

Not a whole lot. I'm guessing 10 at the most on matched gp 3300's.

So these pack's would be better?

Lipoly 6300mah 2S3P 7.4V Pack

# 6300mah Capacity
# 7.4 Volts
# 35mm X 196mm X 26mm
# Rated at 90 Amp Constant Discharge
# Rated at 120 Amp Burst for 10 seconds
# 361 grams

Downside is, they are almost as heavy as nihm's. (420 gram's for 6 cell pack)

If you would like to use the packs in your first post. You could set the amp limit on the Hacker speed control. That is what I did with my clod. But for some reason I had to set the speed control for 30 amps to make it pull 60 amps.

Thank you,

Yes that was my intention, either 30 or 45 amp limit.

So that will work ok for 40'ish mph?

Allright i'll give those pack's from my first post a try. If they don't work i'll step up a few amp's.

Thank's.

Sneek

I have the Kokam Scorpion System on my shopping list.

6400 mAh (2p2s 3200mAh cells, 7.4V) lithium polymer battery pack for R/C cars
Size: 130mmH x 45mmW x 46mmT
Weight: 430 grams
Ratings: 20C / 90%
Power Source: NA
Outputs: 7.4V Nominal, 6400 mAh, supports up to 60A continuous current
Applications: Replaces any 6-cell (7.2 volt) NiCd/NiMH battery for R/C cars, extended run-time
Features: 7.4V at high continuous current; Built in Low Voltage Cutoff prevents cell damage from overdischarge; Safe Charge Connector for use with FMA's Scorpion 2s charger permits up to 3C charge rate (90% capacity in 20 minutes)

It sounds like a promising solution. Here is a thread from one satisfied user.

I've seen those at tower's, expensive and heavy. What make's them better for their price over the maxamp's one's?

Just read Serum's post that they are 120 amp cont. Is this true?

Hi,

I use excactly the same LiPo´s from maxamp with my HV-Maxx system - runtimes about 20-25 minutes without problems.

I also use:

MaxAmps Lipoly 8000mah 7.4V RC Car Pack
8000mah Capacity
7.4 Volts
44mm X 132mm X 26mm
Rated at 96 Amp Constant Discharge(12C)
Rated at 128 Amp Burst for 10 seconds(16C)
335 grams

SUPER SUPER COOL !!!

Look at the data - only 335 grams and 132mm long (lower weight and shorter lenght than the 6300mAh !!!)

Runtimes around 45 minutes and the EMAXX seems to explode with the HV-Maxx - the first 10-15 minutes you are not able to push full throttle.

It is an awesome power/weight ratio.

Greetings, harald-hans

Where are those pack's? Can't find them?

They look promising though. Very tempting.
