Receiver and Servos shorted when MMM v2 smoked?? -
09.29.2008, 09:57 PM
Anyone else have this happen? I just got my 2nd V2, got it all hooked up with an external BEC, modded the case. Plugged in my receiver and nothing...servos dead and receiver (all stock traxxas). Tried a 2 ch. futaba and my new ESC works, but Servos are definitely dead.
What's up CC? Now I feel like you owe me for a receiver and servos??

Did you disconnect the red wire from the reciver plug on the MMM? Also what voltage is your BEC outputting? What BEC are you using?

Usually, it's not the rx or servo that shorts out technically. What probably happened is the BEC outputted full battery voltage. Some receivers are less sensitive than others, but unless servos specifically say they are rated for higher voltage, they will burn out at voltages that are too high above their rating. What brand BEC was it?

That's what I was thinking brian and if the red wire was removed from the MMM then it would be very unlikely that the MMM did the damage. I am interested to see what bec it was though.

No, no...my 1st MMM that smoked was using the internal BEC. After it smoked, I had not tested my receiver or servos...now, I just got my 2nd MMM and set it everything to run a DE sport BEC. Once I got everything hooked up...had the red ESC wired pulled, my servos were dead and the MMM wouldn't program to my radio. So I tried an old Futaba receiver, and the MMM programs to my radio, but servos are dead!!
Sorry if my original post was unclear.

With the DE sport BEC, you don't even need to remove the red wire. I have one too but opted to use an rx pack with Lutach's ESC.

one of my MMM's (I think it was #4) took a $150 digital servo with it. The servo just started melting (literally).

The flames of my MMM almost burned the servo wires. That would have been an easy short circuit. One of the three wires of servo has a small hole because of burn. Close..

When my first MMM V2 flammed out I lost my Traxxas servos (e-revo). The Rx was fine.
My latest MMM V2 was running on a UBEC when it died so the servos and RX are OK.

I used a "bottom" line.

The traxxas servos burn up if you look at them funny. I have lost many without ever them having seen or smelled the MMM.
