neu motor, stripped mount thread - 01.02.2009, 01:02 PM

I just want to see if this is ok, I had stripped the thread on one side on my neu motor and put in a 2 MM longer screw. Will this be ok? I think I remember a note somewhere to make sure to not use a screw that is too long. I'm hoping 2 MM more is ok, I was using the stock screws before.

How is that going to help? The thread is stripped and if I use that plus a longer screw isn't the screw still going to slip?

I'm wondering, how much is too much, is 2 mm too long? Or, should I use a 1 MM washer?

Well, the plate lets you install all four screws into the motor. Then you screw the plate to the mount. So, if you strip threads, it's on a much cheaper part.

Take the motor out. By hand, gently and slowly thread a screw as far as it can go until it hits the coils. Back out a turn or two. Mark the screw where the threads meet the motor. Remove the screw and measure. This is how far the screw can be inserted. Best to do this on all four holes just in case on set of coils is a little bigger than the others and use the smallest value.

I think they have 5mm deep threads. I would gently hand thread your new screws into the motor until they hit something to see how much extra screw length you have minus the motor mount thickness.

Thanks, I see how the plate can help.

I put in a small plastic rod in until it touched, the measurement was 7mm. I then measured the thickness of the rc xray mount, it is 3mm. My screw is 7mm, so it goes is 4mm. I also do think the thread thickness in the motor is 5mm, based on this I should be good.

Thanks for the info, very helpful!!
