Hey guys im new to the forum this is my first post just wanted to say hi, i have been looking for a while and definitely like what i see. Anyways off to my latest project I am from a RC Crawling background, so speed is new to me.

I bought a used Ofna Ultra LX with the intent of converting it to electric

Before i order all my parts i wanted to get some input from you guys

So far i have planned
1- Ofna Ultra Electric Motor Mount
1- Mamba Monster ESC and 2200Kv motor combo

Gears i need some help with,
I have the stock metal gear, but i see they sell a nylon replacement. Is this necessary? if so why?
Next is the pinion gear? i am looking for a good all around buggy set up with something not bias towards torque or top end, something in the middle would be ideal.

Last thing is batteries.
I have a lipo setup for my crawler, and i was planning on using 2 3s lipo's in series. I would like something in the 5000mah or higher range. any suggestions?

Welcome to the forums! Metal spurs are fine with a hardened pinion like RCM sells. Some people swap to plastic because of the noise metal on metal gears make, but I don't mind it. I'll let more informed members give you gearing and battery suggestions.

The stock metal spur is fine. Really the only benefit of a plastic spur is it costs less and is less noisy.

You can play around with the numbers here to get the speed you want. That motor is pretty big so you'll have no problems with torque!

I have recently converted an LX to brushless. I haven't had the weather to really run it yet. I went with the Novak conversion kit 6.5 3400kv (mostly because it was a kit) no real major building. Based on what Novak has to say I'm going to be running a 11 /47(metal to metal). Once the snow melts I will have more info. But I do think temp is going to determine your gearing options. Mine is a 4s setup (I have had good luck with Maxamps 6000mah).
It won't be til may before I hit the track with it...So if you get your build done before then....Do tell. My local track has a 4s lipo limit, but I would love to hear how a 6s LX goes/holds up. I still run a gas lx with a .28 nitro and the diffs are high maintenance.

Ofna ultra series stuff do have weaker diffs. You need to shim them correctly to get the best life out of them. I really need to shim the ultra gtp's diffs, so i will take some pics when I do that.

With the 2200kv motor I would go with 2 2s packs, or a single 5s for more speed. With 6s even the small pinions will yeild 45+mph speed, and you may have issues fitting the lipos under the body with 6s.

thanks for all the info guys, i think i will end up going with a the 2 2s lipo setup, batteries are a bit cheaper, and the lipos im looking at are too big to use in my crawler anyways.

Also i'm just going to use the metal gears for now, i don't mind mesh noise so we will see how that goes.

tmaxxdaddy I am hoping to get this done in the next couple weeks, but i will keep it all posted as it comes along

Here is my MBX I have been beating the snot out of it for almost 2 years and it has always treated me very well.

I had problems with the gorilla strap breaking and my lipo came flying out. So I did away with the strap and went to an aluminum padded bar across the top mounted to standoffs. Way more sturdy and it didn't cost me anything. If you would like to see a pic I can get one for you.

But there are alot of people using velcro straps with good luck.

I haven't had any problems with the diffs, in fact the only thing I broke was when I ran into a 1:1 truck tire on the street. Broke upper and lower arms on passenger side front
