New Hyper Mini Owner - 05.11.2009, 02:21 AM

Hi,

I have a mini on the way & I have a couple of questions that perhaps u guys can help out.

I am interested to change out the wheel & tire combo to something more suited to my track. Can I use rims meant for the CRT .5 ? Will a 2.2" tire like this be suitable for the CRT .5 rim ?

.

Thanks

Regards,
Joe Ling

FG101C,

Thanks for the info.

I am thinking I am going to use :

ESC - Mamba Max double deck I have lying around
Motor - Medusa 50mm 3300kv (or lower)
battery - 3S lipo. What should the capacity be ? What batteries fit ?
Gear - 14T mod 1 hardened ?

Is this setup ok ? I will be running this in a 8th scale track.

Where is a good place online to get spare parts ? I don't see anything at Amain or Stormer.

Regards,
Joe Ling

Keep in mind when choosing tires this is not a 1/10 scale truck so regular 2.2 tires are .5 to a full 1" bigger than the stockers.. stock is about 3.25" tall so something like a buggy 2.2 tire is perfect. The losi x3000's are pretty nice the proline buggy holeshots are great etc.. You'll find most buggy tires are close as they are typically a bit smaller than the trucks.

I'm running the medusa 50mm 4800kv in mine on 2s hardshell race lipo's w/ stock gearing and it's awesome on the track (1:8 offroad track). I got the truck and some spare parts from nitrohouse.com. Truck is 199 parts are reasonable..

M2 compound Proline gladiator truck tires are really nice. They are big, but nice. Just change your gearing...

joes tire question - 05.11.2009, 09:21 PM

hey guy, the .5 wheel will work and are preferd to the cross pin drive buggy wheels as these tend to crank over and strip ,also ive been told the hyper offset is a little wider, though i havent verified that.so stay with the hexes and you should be fine.

The ofna 1/12 bbt wheels work perfect and are cheap, just 12bux for a 4pk

Ok, finally mananged to put the thing together. Had to compromise a little to get it running :

1) MM on 3S
2) 3S 2500mah lipo bought from HK
3) Kontronick Twist 3700kv temporary (Medusa 3300kv on order)

PS : I'm still confused on the tire choice. Are we saying saying that the 10th scale buggy tires will fit the Jammin' rims ?

Yes, 1/10 buggy tires are a perfect fit on the Jammin rims

hyper tires - 05.23.2009, 03:13 PM

Yes they fit, now the question is what surface are you going to run on most of the time? If your a track whore like me and if your track is hard packed like clay or granit i would recomend, hole shots, sqaure fuzies, doudle dees, that new panther hole shot clone or any short firm pin tire. Also i prefer trinity Bomb one firm inserts. If your track is loose and fluffy and is watered farely regularly id run goose bumps ,step pins, bow ties or any tire with a larger longer pin to dig down through the fluff. The bow tie dosnt steer so well so i run them on the rear to get good forward bite and something like a step pin on the front. These larger longer pin tire are for me better on grass than the shorter pins.

Oh yeah. Ran the car today at my local track. What a blast !

Shocks work good. Stock setup a little nose heavy. Stock tires works ok at my track. This thing feels right at home on a 8th scale track. Clears the 8th scale jumps too !

Clears jumps like this one where the car is hurled more than 8 feet into the air

Here's a view of the track. U can see the big jump on the right. The little guy can clear the jump near the awning as well.

I'm impressed.

However, fun was stopped short due to a big shunt after the mega jump. The car, being nose heavy, plowed right into a semi-buried tire. Bent the front lower suspension pin & warped the fr/lwr suspension holder. Fixed that up a while ago & ready for more action.

Joe Ling
