HI
I bought last week a hyper-8 rolling chassis to convert brushless. Today on my first run my motor heat up to 195 (91c) only after 5 minutes. I use a medusa 36/60/2200, MMM and only 3s 5000mah 20c fligtmax lipo on it. lipo and esc was only around 90. I've only a 12T pinion that comes with the conversion set. I can easily turn the spur gear by hand when the motor isn't loaded and the gear mesh is OK. I've no time for opening the diffs right now.. Can this heat problem be based only on the little pinion or should I search for any problem on diffs?
3s is too low a voltage for the MMM means you are going tobe drawing a lot of Amps I would try a 4 or 5 cell lipo with at least a 100 amp rating then try
your gearing - are you running on grass? grass creates a heap more resistance (heat) than dirt or bitumen.
For the first run I run it only 10 minutes on asphalt. I'll try to increase lipo cells but wouldn't the lipo will heat up when I pull much current?
Actually I choose 3s for the first run to have less problem
Lipo shouldnt heat up too much as its rated for 100 amps constant
You will have less problems on 4 or 5 cells. If it got hot on the road you should also look at gearing but definately get a higher cell count battery.
does the car roll easily with the motor out - spur gear will turn pretty easily even if there is minor binding in the drive train
My lipo is rated for 100amper constant. As ı can see the car moves fine without motor but I have not much exprience. This is my second car. Other one is a 4x2 Slash.
After your suggestions I'll try the car on 4s and 5s before ı get my bigger pinion (on international transit) Thanks a lot..
I'll inform if the problem solved or not..
