What slithered out of my laptop... -
11.19.2009, 01:39 AM
Opened up my laptop this morning and this cute little fella ran out, threw himself off the desk & tried to hide in the carpet
My blackberry doesn't take the best pics but as fellow Aussies may well know they're yellow & blue. They give you a painful nip also
I haven't seen one this big in "the city" though

nope...down in tasmania.
cold and wet most of the winter, but this global warming has already affected our weather down here...it never rains during summer any more...whereas it did all the time before...and we are getting regular 30*C days where it used to be 20*C

They're relatively harmless when compared to funnel web spiders or brown snakes that live in the backyard, both high on the most venomous lists...
Most venomous snakes
Sydney spiders
There's other stuff as well but we don't worry about them as much

I shivered at the thought of seeing something like that crawl out of my laptop. And it tried to hide?!?! That thing's huge!

Haha that's a good one MetalMan.
Luckily we have nothing dangerous over here, only 1 venomous snake the Adder (its not venomous enough to kill an adult) and we killed all our wolves, bears and big cats long ago.

lol, looks like the centipede from James and the Giant Peach animated movie.
I think the most dangerous insect we have around here is the Brown Recluse (Fiddleback) spider. Depending on a person's resistance, a bite can cause a simple puffed/red/itchy area around the bite (this is what happens to me) to a severe reaction where the tissue around the wound basically rots away. Very nasty. Generally not aggressive, but they do bite when cornered. And they like to hide in dark secluded areas (hence the name) like shoes, under bedsheets, clothing etc - pretty much anywhere an unsuspecting human would shove an unprotected body part.
I would imagine that creepy crawly was in your laptop because it was nice and warm. It probably got too warm with an active CPU to be comfortable so it decided to vacate. That'll teach you to use your laptop.
