Defect in FLM Axle Upgrade Kit for the Slash 4x4? -
09.13.2010, 12:51 PM
I got a set and they seem to be defective. The U-Joints have a cross pin that is meant to be held by a grub screw. Unfortunately, the threading in the U-Joints (all 4 of them) does not seem to allow the grub screws to screw in far enough to retain the pin.
So Mike C. contacted me. Apparently this is a known defect in certain batches of these parts; he advised I send to FLM for replacement, so that's what I'm doing!
Right; that's what I heard. Should be an easy enough fix, but I've never tapped anything before, so I'm sending it back to Jamie to be fixed.
Have you had good luck with these axles addressing the bending and breaking issues of the stock ones? I'm running MIP X-duty CVDs right now, but they add a ridiculous amount of unsprung weight, and you can feel it on the track ... feels like a different vehicle. I've thought about trying the Tekno CVDs ... but all I really want is for axles that don't bend or break, not everything else ... I kind of like the Traxxas telescoping driveshafts and have never had a problem with them.
I've never had any issues at all with mine once they were fixed...
One easy way it to force in a couple of 3mm screws (2.5mm hex) to gradually increase thread depth. Will cost you a few screws as they'll get knackered but it works. If it doesn't then just send them to Jamie.
Is "Jamie" a contact person at FLM ?
Could you supply a email or phone number Chris ?
I'm missing pieces to some FLM parts I bought and if I can get them replaced W/O bothering Mike is would be a great help to both of us.
Thx,
J.
I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.
Honestly you'd probably have more success with mike
