The update for that charger just adds more features. You might like to be able to "store" charge packs. When I'm done racing for the night, I like to store charge my packs so they are good to go for the next week/month I go out to race. This adds a discharge function to the charger. So say if you have a fully charged pack and you ask the charger to store charge, it will be discharging it to 60% capacity. And if you have a low pack, it will charge it to 60%.

I think it also adds a few other improvements and only takes about 5 minutes to do.

thanks for the help marzac2....I do already have that feature installed (which btw is very cool feature ) so that must have been an earlier firmware update as I am at firmware v1.7...after reading more i see that there up to about v2.4 but doesnt really explain the improvements or advantages of the later updates....I'm not exactly comfortable doing the later upgrades cause i dont want to ruin my charger so i may just leave it at v1.7 for the time being....thank you very much for the help

Software upgrades. - 11.16.2010, 03:56 AM

Think of it this way. When any software company puts out a new product there will surely be issues that pop up that they either have not thought of or just have not run into previously. Software upgrades serve two main purposes. First of all it gives the company a chance to improve their Apps including adding features and/or services not previously offered. The second reason for upgrades would be to overcome problems that have come up either in their testing or with other customer issues, so that everyone else can avoid those problems. Just like updating your Anti-virus software for your PC on a regular basis it is always a good idea to update or upgrade software on any of your electronics that may offer that service. These upgrades may or may not improve the life and/or opperation of your equipment. So why not just do it and be safe.
