Mamba XS - 02.04.2011, 10:40 AM

I love my Mamba XL, 8s, a kick butt BEC, and data logging.

Is there a potential to have a Mamba XS (extra small) in the future?
A 1/10 or 1/8 version of the XL.
I want a MMP and a MMM with the same features, especially the data logging and 8S.

How long does Castle plan to continue the current line of ESC's before changing the layout again? Example Mamba Max ---> MMP ---> MMX

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

+1 indeed it would be the shiznit to have data logging on a mmm and mmpro. 8s would be the cherry on top but for the smaller lighter cars 6s is plenty for me.

While it would be nice for some of us, I really don't think the market for HV in smaller vehicles is large enough to justify the expense or R/D, tooling, etc.

I do agree on the market for the smaller 1/8 scale stuff, racing and anything 10th scale. But for the larger Mts like cen genesis and xxl lst, and the various larger savages I think something 10s capable with the MMM amps rating would be good. Then have a selection of 2y motors to run with it.

A discrete data logger based on the same hardware as the MMXL one would be nice- eagletree is great but it's too pricey for my tastes, not something I would use often enough to justify the ~$100+ price tag for the 150amp model.

Question though; how many escs/ what are the current models of esc that Castle actually sell, and are there any plans to discontinue any?

Seems like the MambaMax is pointless now with the MMPro being a better spec but cheaper, and the SideWinder Pro/ SCT being the same power as the MM pretty much..

Anyone care to ammend this list:

MMXL
MMM
MMPro
MMPro SCT
MM
SideWinder Pro
SideWinder SCT
Sidewinder
SideWinder Micro Pro
SideWinder Micro
Mamba Micro Pro
Mamba Micro

Did I miss any/ invent any new ones?..

Mamba-25 was the original 1/18 controller, which was updated and turned into the Sidewinder Micro. Sidewinder Micro Pro is not the name of any Castle ESC. Pretty sure the MMP and MMP SCT are the same, just different sticker, and Sidewinder V2 and Sidewinder SCT are also the same. Pretty sure that's the case at least.

Here is the full list of all the car controllers that Castle has produced over the years with some side notes.

1/18th
Mamba 25 (discontinued)
Sidewinder Micro (replaced Mamba 25)
Mamba Micro Pro (SWDM with case and heatsink)

1/10th
Mamba Max (being phased out/discontinued)
Mamba Max Pro
Mamba Max Pro SCT (same ESC as regular MMP, just different labels)
Mamba Max Pro 1 cell (MMP with BEC, switch and fan removed)
Sidewinder (being phased out/discontinued)
Sidewinder SCT
Sidewinder V2 (same ESC as SWD SCT, effectively replacing Sidewinder and Mamba Max)

1/8th
Mamba Monster (currently on V5)

1/5th
Mamba XL (currently the only car product with data logging capabilities)
Mamba XL-HV (not released, still in development)

Of course we also have the HPI Blur (MMM), HPI Motiv (SWD), HPI Qbase (MMP), Holmes TorqueMaster BR-XL (custom SWD) and Axial AE-2 (custom SWD) as OEM controllers.

I have one more unopened NIB MM that I'll probably keep as a collector's item. Who knows, maybe it will be worth some serious cash one day!

If you have one of the originals that has the bright yellow case, I'm sure it would be a collectible at some point!

good list and summary Tom!
I too would love some more data logging 1/10 1/8 scale escs, or a good and reasonably priced dedicated logger, but I know these probably aren't cheap to make!
I'll keep dreaming, haha
