Sidewinder V2 on 4S? - 04.11.2011, 07:58 PM

Anyone try to run the Sidewinder V2 on 4S (with or without external BEC?) I know it would void the warranty, but just curious.

The application I'm considering this for is in an SCX10 with a Holmes Hobbies 1100kv outrunner, so it's not terribly demanding. From the few things I've been able to find people have run the Sidewinder V1 in crawlers/scalers on 4S no problem (with it even beeping 4 times at startup to indicate 4S lipo). What I didn't know if the V2 will allow the same, or does it have a more advanced over-voltage protection?

Also, no one indicated whether they were using the internal BEC or external, but I would probably use an external BEC to be safe(er).

Would use external bec for sure. I'm not sure but it might trigger the esc voltage protection.

Well on their site the picture of the esc has a max rating of 15v, so not as high as a fully charged 4s lipo at 16.8v, but disable the bec and try it I don't think it will hurt it. Pop the case open and check the capacitor ratings and if they are 25v then you should be fine because I'm 90% sure it has 25v rated FET's.

That's the thing, I agree I'm pretty convinced the caps and FETs can handle it (in a scale crawler with low kv motor at least). But more concerned if there is overvoltage protection in the software that won't allow over 15V? The V1 allowed 4S but not sure if they changed it on the V2.

SCT SW won't arm on 4s and has no older firmware to roll back to.

Ahhh, that's what I was afraid of, glad I didn't order any 4S packs! Well, I can still get to where I need to be on 3S, just need to pick up a smaller spur. Thanks for the info.

According to Castlelink v3.30.1 demo mode for the Sidewinder SCT and SV2 both have LVC support for 4s (12.0v cutoff)

Cheers
