It is not recommended, the wires have a coating on them just past the bare part. i have done it before, but you have to get the coating off to get the solder to stick, heat will help with this (just not too hot!).

Thanks for the reply. think ill give it a shot, just wasnt sure if there was a reason for them being so long
One more question, how do you calculate the what kv it would be in "star" configuration. Motor is a 2240/7 hi amp if it helps any

Whatever the Kv is in Delta mode divided by 1.73 will give you the Kv of the motor in Wye mode and vise versa(Wye Kv times 1.73 = Delta Kv).
