Need help with google sketchup.. - 02.02.2012, 10:03 AM

Anyone here proficient in google sketchup? I wanted to design some parts to be CNC machined but I need some help with the file. If anyone can do me small favor to "smoothen" some arcs/curves on the drawing, I would really appreciate..

Silly question, but have you looked at any of the tutorials or video guides on the official sketchup page? Can't help myself unfortunately as I've never taken the time to get to know sketchup- I'm more of a hacksaw & metal file kinda guy when it comes to making parts form metal...

I highly recommend that you join the sketchucation.com forum. Some very helpful members in there.

You have the free or the pro edition?

Thanks bud. Really nice forum. I just need to explore it a bit.

I only have the free version though.

No problem. I have gotten a lot of help in there from time to time. Often you can even just upload your sketchup file(s) and people will help you with the difficult parts.

If you need to save your drawing as a .dxf file for your friends CNC, there is even a free plugin for that.

Yes that is exactly what I wanted to do. The machinist require a .dxf file. Can you please show me how and where to get the free plug in?

This plugin: http://forums.sketchucation.com/view...?f=323&t=40773

It's useful but not perfect. If you have a more advanced drawing you might need to get someone on the forum with Sketchup pro version to make a proper .dxf file.
