4s lipos with a Neu motor running on a Quark or MGM.

Layout depends on how you want the batteries arranged. Two popular options is to A) have the motor on one side and the batteries on the other, or B) have a 2s pack on either side with the motor in the center.

I really like the Mamba Max with a Lehner 1930/8 or 1940/7 on 4s.

If I were to build a buggy I think I would use the Team Magic M1B buggy and put a Neu 1512 motor in it on 4S with the MGM 160 esc. I would also consider the Mugen MBX5 or Losi 8ight buggies.

The Mamba Max/Lehner combo is nice, but good luck finding a Lehner motor. For something more mainstream, I'd look to an MGM 16018 and Neu 1512/1.5y (1900kv) or 1512/2.5d (2000kv). If you want/need more speed, you could look at the 2600kv 1512. All of these motors run very well on 4S. The first two do very well on 5S and 6S too, although I pretty much limit the battery config to 4S for a buggy. Any more battery on a tight track and the buggy starts handling like crap.
