Mmm2 slow take off. No full throttle starts - 04.29.2013, 11:39 PM

Hi guys just got my mmm2 to replace my original mmm. It's in a revo running 4s with a 2200 neu. My problem is when I punch the throttle it feels slow to take off. Like punch control is on. After a few feet it builds up and takes off.
I swapped back to my old monster and it rips as soon as I hit the throttle.
I remember my old monster did it one time when I updated the firmware so I went back to 1.24 and it had punch again but obviously I can't do that with a brand new mmm2.
Punch control is disabled and I'm using 65c packs so it can't be a lack of battery. Any ideas it won't even wheelie it just take off like I'm at a 1/4 throttle and then kicks in as its going. Feels like my motor has no torque to get the truck going

Brushless ..... I put that s... In everything.

Sounds like punch control or current limiting is somehow engaged.

Any other firmware vers avail for mmm2?

That's exactly what it feels like but I have it all disabled. Is this the way they are set up now to be easier on the esc on takeoff I wonder? Like I said old esc everything the same takes off like a rocket.
No other firmware that I see listed in castle link.

Just called castle and they said they never really heard of it. I'm gonna do the kv test for the torque control and then turn it off. Maybe it doesn't know the kv so it's limiting current? I don't know. I hate having issues nobody ever heard of lol. It has to be something with newer firmware cause my old mmm does the same thing if I update the firmware.

Did some more testing. When I punch the throttle the green and yellow led light up till the rpms come up then the yellow goes out and I get full power. If I maintain some rpm and punch it I no longer get the yellow light and I get full power rite away, let the rpms drop to much and when you nail it the yellow light comes on with the green one again till the rpms come up again. Any ideas?

It's firmware related. If I update to 1.39 firmware on my old monsters it does the exact same thing. Once I go back to 1.32 it's fixed. You guys don't have this problem with 1.39 firmware in your monsters? If you give it throttle and the yellow light stays lit with the green one for two seconds you have the same issue.

That sounds like its staying in its "startup" algorithm too long. Firmware might be to blame, maybe try reinstalling the firmware if you can. The other possibility is the firmware is fine and the esc is staying in "startup" algorithm too long because it doesn't detect the emf feedback from the motor the way it should. If that's the case it's hardware related and needs to go back to Castle.

I sent castle a vid and they said the are aware of a few people with this problem but don't currently know the cause of it. It's in the firmware but I can't revert to older firmware cause the monster2 only has 1.39. I went back to 1.32 on my old ones and they are perfect. Oh well waiting on new firmware :)

On the Monster 1 anything newer than Firmware 1.24 does not have really nice startup parameters

goes from "odd" to "total fail"

I guess, the "good old" Version 1.24 for the Monster 1 does not work on the Monster 2

On the Monster 2 the 1.32 is currently the best choice, but not as nice as the 1.24 on the Monster 1

Same does apply to the Mamba Max Pro
Best Firmware here is 1.26

I had a talk with Richard this year on the Toy Fair in Nuernberg
regarding this issue and some other minor things on the latest firmware versions.

I offered some intensive firmware testing for Castle, but no reply yet....

kind regards

Mirko

I wish I could force some older firmware onto my monster 2 lol. Yeah 1.24 is nice . My monster2 only had 1.39 on it so I can't go back.

The days of being able to do things like that died when they encrypted the settings db.

There should be a patch fixing this issue later this week.

Thanx!

Awesome! By patch you mean firmware update?
